Artist Statement

The struggle to exist, to not disappear in this moment, is the advancing root of the struggle to exist throughout the whole passage of time. We need to help each other in this struggle. You by asking, I by struggling to respond. This is the law of love which rules the universe.                                                                     -  Jacob Needleman, author of “I Am Not I”

Sarah Fisher is a painter living and working in Houston, Texas.

Fisher records the human need to be authentically seen. Her portraits explore connection, separation, transition, vulnerability and grit. Painting people she knows, loves and encounters, Fisher works in oil on canvas from photography she creates and discovers, often in spontaneous moments. Her subjects vary by age, ethnicity and background while sharing a strong sense of self and a willingness to be known. Often cropped tight and to the edge, her figures  confront with vivid color at or beyond human scale and peer directly at the viewer with an in-your-face individuality.
